Virginia Beach Fishing Boat |
The Virginia Beach sport fishing boat, the Matador is a top Virginia charter boat with an experienced Captain and crew. | |
 |
Matador is a 42’ Ray Davis custom sport fish. She was built in 1966 and then completely renovated and restored in 2004. She was initially built on a juniper wood construction and in 2004, the juniper wood hull was restored and covered with fiberglass. Originally, she was powered by a large, single diesel. Sometime later, she was refitted with twin caterpillar 3208 diesel motors. In 2006, the caterpillar motors were removed and replaced with twin 450 hp Cummins 6cta turbo diesel motors.
In 2004 when the renovation on her was started, a number of jobs were undertaken. A new diesel generator was installed as well as new outriggers, new furuno electronics, a completely new interior, new twin zone air- conditioning, and when all that was finished, the exterior was given a fresh coat of marine paint. Over $200,000 and countless hours of labor were spent on her restoration. She was purchased from another charter company in Ocean City, MD. by Matador Sportfishing Charters in 2009.
Matador weighs in at approximately 43,000 pounds and her 900 horsepower cruises her very efficiently between 22 and 23 knots and gives her a top end speed of nearly 30 knots. As you will see, she is very comfortable, has a solid ride, is well equipped, and fishes very well. This boat has a very long history and has spent many days on the water. We truly enjoy her and hope that you do too.

Items you should bring on your Virginia Beach fishing trip.
Bring a cooler for food and drinks. Ask your Virginia charter boat Captain how large of a cooler you will need to carry your fish home in. Ask what you can keep and even where you can have your fish cleaned. |
A sports bag is a good idea to bring for carrying your rain gear, hat, glasses etc and other personal items that you need on a saltwater charter fishing trip. |
Bring all your food and drinks. If you want to bring beer you should clear it with the Virginia Beach Beach charter boat Captain first. Alcoholic beverages are ALLOWED. |
If you will be fishing in foul or rainy weather then you may want to bring some gear to keep you dry. Not as important on boats with parlors, cabins, and covers. |
Bring sun glasses. Preferably polarized fishing glasses to lessen the sun's glare that reflects up off the water. Virginia Beach Beach fishing means you must take measures to combat the suns rays. |
Bring a camera to take snapshots of those big fish you catch or bring a video camera and catch all the action that a Virginia Beach Beach fishing trip offers. |
A hat or ball cap is a good idea, especially for you guys that are getting a bit thin on top. Protect your head from the Virginia sun's burning rays. |
If you get sea sick or aren't sure if you get sea sick then it is a very wise idea to take your Dramamine before you leave the dock. Nothing can ruin a fishing trip worse than a guy named "RALPH". |
The Virginia Beach Beach fishing region can get very hot during the summer. Make sure you bring sunvareen, especially if you easily burn. If you are burnt up you can't enjoy your Virginia Beach Beach charter fishing trip. |
You probably already paid for the trip but you should make sure you have some cash in pocket so you can tip the First Mate. Being Mate on a charter boat is not easy work and these guys deserve every dime they get. Tip them well!
