On saturday, I again took Legacy out in hopes of placing further in the mid atlantic rockfish shootout. The striper fishing was just off and they were not biting well. There was also a million boats at cape henry and rather than waste time dealing with rockfish, we pushed offshore and put the tuna gear out. for the second time in two days of tuna fishing we were rewarded with a big bite. The tuna fishing inshore at virginia beach has never been this good. this bite was 4 miles outside of rudee inlet and we immediately knew this fish was signifcantly larger than the 158 pound fish we caught two days earlier. We had the fish hooked solid on a 50 wide and everything was going well until the fish hung into a welch pot. We managed to until the fish but the line got severely chafed and we had to back of the drag and settle into the fight instead of trying to horse the fish. After two hours, we had the fish at boatside and coming home to the scales. At the scales this fish weighed in at 251 pounds. We are currently booking hatteras trips in february and march at the rate of $1350 and this fish would be considered a normal size fish out of hatteras for that time of year.
