Virginia Beach Fishing Report, Charter Rockfish Citations For Everyone

01/09 - Today we had the Ennis boys aboard to go catch some stripers. Jake's wife Cynthia purchased this trip for Jake as a gift which I thought was a great idea. These guys don't fish much and we really wanted to impress them with our winter striper fishery we have right here in their home town of Virginia Beach. We set off to the same area we fished the day before and it was ON! The weather was nasty. It was cold and windy with big choppy waves but the stripers were loving it. As we got near the spot, we found huge flocks of diving gannets, great bait marks, and fish all over the place. The gannets would dive and a few seconds later injured menhaden would rise to the surface. As those menhaden got to the surface huge 40-50 pound rockfish would come and rip them off the surface creating a huge boil. It was a great sight to see. Needless to say we experienced great fishing and these guys were impressed. Our catch at the dock included multiple citation sized fish including a 48 pound striper, a 43 pound striper, and several 40-40-41 pound stripers. Citations for everyone! Not a bad first striper trip for these guys.
