Virginia Beach Fishing Report, Goodbye Summer Almost Striper Time

Goodbye Summer Almost Striper Time

Last week, we had some nice warm weather and several trips to wind out our summer 2010 inshore fishing season. We had several cobias, several shots at cobias that we missed, some spanish mackerel, and a good day on the amberjacks at the tower all during the nice sunny 90 degree days of last week. Now the days are getting shorter and the weather is changing over to the fall weather pattern with cooler days and cooling water.

The next couple of weeks most of the species we have targetted all summer will be gone to where ever they spend the winter months and new species will be there for us. Offshore we will see a shift from marlin fishing to tuna fishing and deep dropping whenever condiotions are right and allow us to get out to the deep. In october and november we will see red drum and flounder to hold us over as the stripers arrive with each passing cold front.

Striper season starts in early October. We will see schoolie stripers in the bay on light tackle in big numbers all through october november and december. Light tackle fishing for schoolie stripers is a great time and normally we catch huge numbers of stripers in october and november around the bridge tunnel. In december, the emphasis will shift from light tackle jigging to eeling as larger stripers migrate in from the north and feed on eels which are migrating out of the bay. In january and early february, the fishing will be wide open as huge schools of striper winter off our coast and we catch them ocean trolling. We are currently booking striper trips all the way through the 2010-2011 rockfish season and prime dates are filling up. Call us today at 7577496008 to book your striper trip!
