04/09/09 - Today, we had four guys on a vacation to Virginia Beach from New Hampshire for a bachelor party. They wanted to spend the morning catching anything that bites so we took them flounder fishing. Today, the weather was absolutely beautiful with warm sunny skies, light west winds and little to no seas. We started out at the end of the incoming tide and fished through the outgoing in the area around the 8 mile marker. Water temp was 53 degrees visiblity was good. Today we had a steady pick on the flounders all day. No time in particular was any better than the other. Just steadily picked up one or two fish per drift throughout the morning. We ended out the day with a nice catch of a dozen flounders with a 8 throwbacks and 4 keepers. The groom-to-be had the biggest flounder of the day with a nice 27'' 6 pound 8 ounce flatty. We also kept a 20, a 21, and a 23.5''. We let go one or two that were probably barely legal but these guys just wanted a couple. Hot bait was a simple squid minnow combo and the bite was definitely the best in the 30-34 foot depth. Only a handful of doggies and skates. |
