Virginia Beach Fishing Report, MARLINS OFFSHORE

Just in time for the marlin fishing to start to get good, we look to have a hurricane coming. Hurricane Irene is rapidly intensifying each day and with each update looks to be aimed more at us here.

The fishing has been very good over the last couple of days. We have done several inshore trips, catching a few sharks, too many bluefish, a handful of spanish mackerel, but the best bet on the days its calm enough to fish for them is cobia. Cobias have been plentiful inshore and we have been steady catching them.

Offshore, the white marlin bite has been right on time. Our average trip recently we have gotten between 4 and a dozen bites a day which is world class. The picture here is from yesterday, Tuesday. We had Dave Spink and his two young nephews aboard for the day. We wanted to catch these two young kids a marlin and after several opportunities, we got em. Marlins are very difficult to catch, and it is a big accomplishment for a kid. We had 8 or 9 marlin bites and hooked 7. The marlin pictured in the photo ate a "j" hook and was hooked deep inside and died, so we kept it. Late in the day we also caught this nice wahoo pictured.

Also, one day last week, we went deep dropping and unloaded on the barrelfish out in the canyon. We caught several groupers as well. We brought back more than enough for everyone and Im sure those guys are gonna be eating good for a while.
