07/30 - We had Ramone Kent aboard for a day offshore. The weather was supposed to be gorgeous, but I guess the weatherman was wrong. The wind was forecasted to be light out of the northeast, but ended up being northeast 25 all day. Despite the conditions we made it happen. While we were setting lines out, we got slammed by the bonitas. A while later we saw a marlin go tailing by but no bite. We got into the canyon and had a couple dolphin bites and had a pair of white marlin come in. The first of the two marlin became gut hooked and was bleeding very badly so we brought it in rather than sending it away from the boat dead. It was a good sized 60# class white marlin. Normally, we do not kill white marlins however this one was going to die anyways so we brought it in. Then we found some buoys that were holding mahi and we spent the rest of the day bailing mahi. We caught a good box full of them and headed home with the seas pushing us. |
