Virginia Beach Fishing Report, Matador Offshore Marlin and Dolphin

Matador Offshore Marlin and Dolphin

7-15 Today we fished offshore. We started off at the weather buoy expecting to find some dolphin, but there was already a boat there. We trolled close by and caught one or two, but didnt want to get too close and disturb his fishing. We continued trolling south picking at singles of dolphin throughout the morning. At about 1015 we had a white marlin enter the spread. We successfully switched the fish from the teaser to the small ballyooo behind the teaser and the fight was on! After about a 15 minute fight, we ended up releasing the white marlin after a nice series of jumps and a couple strong runs. We continued pulling south and eventually made our way over to the south tower. We caught a double of mahi near the tower that were our two nicest dolphin of the day at twenty three and twenty two pounds. We finished off the day with some topwater popping for amberjacks before riding home in perfectly slick calm seas.
