Virginia Beach Fishing Report, MORE COBIAS

Wednesday, we had two trips. A morning trip and an afternoon trip. Our morning trip we did some trolling and caught blues and a spanish mackerel. We tried to look for cobia on buoys and saw 0 on the buoys, but we did see 1 fish on a school of menhaden that spooked right at the back of the boat before eating. Just bad luck. I was convinced though that if I looked at enough buoys I would find them. The cobias have been more assosciated with the menhaden than the buoys lately. I looked at a ton of buoys and saw no fish on the buoys. Conditions didnt really allow for riding around and sightcasting. Or so I thought.

On the afternoon trip, conditions were still pretty bad for sight casting. I figured there were enough fish around yesterday and I would give it a shot anyhow. Depsite the 20kt southeast winds, the hurricane swell, and the cloudcover and intermittent rain, we still managed to see some cobias in the poor conditions. These fish are all around the menhaden. Our crew fished for about 3 hours and they had all they wanted. We saw about a dozen cobias. Hooked 5. Caught these 3 nice ones and went home.
