06/30/10 - Despite rough conditions, we were able to get out and find a soft spot and experience decent inshore fishing. We had two half days inshore and where there was a heavy northeast wind along the oceanfront, it was much calmer inside the bay so we fished there both trips. Our morning group hit the tide right and we caught some really nice flounder and a couple of dogfish on the bottom. Then, we trolled for a little bit with a couple bluefish and a really nice spanish mackerel to show for our efforts.
Our afternoon trip we went right back to the same area except this time the current was more suitable for trolling. We didn't catch any mackerels on the afternoon trip but we did load up on a much better class of bluefish than we have been seeing along the oceanfront. These bluefish averaged 2-4# and we caught lots of them. Then we tried bottom fishing and caught mostly dogfish and skates, but we did have a couple undersized flounders too. |
