Virginia Beach Tuna Tournament

07-09 - Virginia Beach Tuna tournament late report. We fished the Virginia Beach tuna tournament on thursday with the John Angelson group. The plan was to start off out around thirty fathoms and try to get a yellowfin tuna to bite us then move in for a bluefin. We worked out there for a while and did not have a tuna bite. We did catch some nice dolphin and ended up having a couple around twenty pounds. We trolled inshore a bit and had a nice tuna bite but it just didnt come tight. The fish made a real nice run with the bait before popping off. This would be our only tuna bite of the day. Continuing trolling inshore, we worked in towards some areas that had been holding bluefins in days prior. We did not find tunas. We did find marlins. We had several marlin bites in shallow water, one of which I am sure we could have easily caught, but this was not a marlin tournament. Our dolphin ended up being the second largest dolphin in the tournament.
