Yesterday we had a group from Tennessee aboard for a day offshore. In lieu of going to the north and chasing a possible one or two bluefin bites, we headed south. First stop was at the same old spot for jacks. There were some there, but very tricky to get to bite. We managed 15 jacks there with everyone on the boat who wanted one catching a citation jack. To my knowledge these are the first jacks VA jacks of the year. More should be arriving soon as the water warms and surely they will get increasingly more difficult to catch as everyone in town throws croakers at em, but we were able to catch them on jigs and topwaters which was even more fun. We pulled offshore and trolled along the west end of the cigar hoping for a stray bluefin. No bluefin bites but we had plenty of trolling bites from false albacore, low to mid 30''class bluefish, and even a couple mahi bites. Saw two makos cruising the surface. Pretty day weatherwise. Water was 71 almost everywhere but inshore. Theres a real nice piece of water back behind the Washington and Norfolk . Hopefully that will push in a little closer. Rumor is that first white marlin and first blue marlins were caught out of ocean city today way out in the deep in that warm water.
We still have a couple of days available over the next couple of weeks and as warm water arrives the offshore fishing WILL get much better. For rates and info check my site at www.matadorcharters.com . Anyways heres the remaining dates we have open in June.:
