Spring has spring here in Virginia beach and it’s time to go fishing! Last night matador charters ran its first trip of the year and we went to the eastern shore to fish at the mouth of the Chesapeake bay for red drum and black drum aboard the "toro" boat. While the fishing wasnt on fire, we had several drum bites, caught a citation sized red drum that we released, brought home a black drum for the grill, and also released several sharks. It was really great to get out on the water and starting off our charter fishing season with a citation is really a great start to our 2019 Virginia beach charter fishing season. We are currently booking charter fishing trips through the summer and still have some prime dates available. Give captain Jake a call today at 7577496008 and get your Virginia beach charter fishing trip booked. Thanks!

another great charter catch for the virginia beach charter boat underdog
Last week we did another overnight offshore make up charter fishing trip out of the Virginia Beach fishing center. The target was supposed to be tuna but after a couple hours of trolling and no bites, we changed gears and set up for swords and sharks. Underdogs crew helped our anglers to catch and release a couple nice hammerhead sharks earning the anglers a Virginia release citation for their efforts and in the night we caught and released a swordfish. As the sun rose, we trolled a little more with no luck so turned quickly to bottom fishing and caught a really nice mess of a nice class of sea bass, and the new pending Virginia state record grey triggerfish at 6 pounds 12 ounces for angler Dave Walden. once we had a full box of fish for our group and everyone had got the chance to catch a couple nice fish, we changed gears and went north to the norfolk canyon to target daytime swordfish.

A large catch of fish for the Underdog charter boat from Rudee inlet in Virginia beach

Heres this weeks fishing report from Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach Virginia. This weekend we had gorgeous weather forecast and the satellite shot looked promising, so we took Underdog out for a 24 hour offshore overnight make up charter fishing trip. We left the Virginia Beach fishing center around lunchtime on Saturday headed for the Norfolk Canyon. We got there and based on slow fishing reports, we made a couple drops for swordfish, but no luck. As it became evening, we switched to trolling for tuna and caught a nice 78# yellowfin tuna on a spreader bar on the south wall of the canyon. It got dark shortly aster so we started drifting. Sharks were thick and we caught several hammerhead sharks up to 10 feet long and killed a nice 7 foot, 98 pound spinner shark for the grill.

The charter fishing boat Underdog fishes from The Virginia Beach Fishing Center
On wednesday, Underdog was booked for an offshore fishing charter. We had a great weather forecast and have been experiencing great fishing and with a nice warm water eddy parked off the Virginia coast, we were anxious to get offshore. We left the Virginia Beach fishing center early and arrived on the scene and landed just in the right spot. We immediately found a large school of mahi mahi, and commenced to catching our limit very quickly. It was still early in the day, so we opted to go deep drop bottom fishing for tilefish and the tilefish were very cooperative, so we caught a quick easy, early limit of tilefish. At this point our fishbox was full but it was still early in the day, so we decided to make a drop for a daytime swordfish. We rigged up and dropped baits and within an hour had a hook up. The sword we caught was a keeper, but our box was already full so we released the swordfish and headed home.
