On monday, we had a makeup trip with Bill Pino and the squidnation guys, Johnny O Reilly, George Hughes, and my good friend Aaron Brunson. We were going to give the yellowfin fishing another swing. The wind had fallen out to near nothing and the cirrent was ripping. Very early on we made the decision to scrap our plans to fish for the yellowfin tunas because they dissappear when the current begins running hard. So we went to the rocks and made a day of reef jigging out of it. After it took us a while to get out of the inlet in the dark. We almost had a ferry boat back into us as almost ran aground, the channel we totally messed up, and then I had a hose blow that I had to change. Bad start. Nonetheless, we still made it to the rocks early. We started drifting and started hooking up pretty quickly. We were picking a handful of blackfin out of a lot of false albacore. We made a lot of drifts and caught a ton of species on jigs including, blackfin tuna, false albacore, amberjack, bull sharks, blue runners, bonita mackerel, black sea bass, and even a triggerfish. At the end of the day everyone was tired and we had made a nice catch of blackfins with the largest being 31#. It was a beautiful slick calm day and everyone on the boat went home with sore arms. Aaron got a lot of video and hopefully we will have it on youtube soon. He got one part where everyone on the boat was fighting fish and a school of sharks ambushed their fish. Very cool sight. Anyways, another great day and we have some open dates coming up including this saturday and sunday.
