12/12 - We left out of Rudee Inlet just before sunup ready to fish the Toys 4 Tots tournament. Started just off the ships between 16 and 18 on incoming tide. 2nd drift the long bait goes down and we catch a 44''er. Do another drift with slow reports in the area and decide to move over to the east side and take a look. Drifted all over there until 230 with only two doggies to show. Saw one or two fish caught there but no one was setting the world on fire. Spoke with Max and there was a small bite on the west side of the bridge. Went over there and second drift we hook a nice fish on the smallest rod out, on the closest bait to the boat. After twenty minutes, we have a nice 48'' fish on deck. At that time we could have left and still made the evening weigh in but I decided to try to catch another. We did get another about 30 minutes later, a 42'' fish. At 430 we picked up lines and steamed home to rudee. Our largest fish, the 48''er weighed about 43-44# on the scale at rudee, but the fish was gonna have to sit overnight because the next weigh in was not until 630 am. At weigh in the fish lost enough weight sweating in the fish bag to knock us out of the money, weighing in at 40.54#. Still a nice fish, but just outside the money. I should have made the call and weighed her last night. My crew was great and we all had a good time . The fishing wasnt fast and furious, but we werent fishing for a million of the wrong ones, we just wanted one of the right ones. Thanks to the guys who put this tourney on and congrats to the winners. This was my first time fishing the T4T and I have to say that I enjoyed the event and look forward to it next year.
