BLUEFIN TUNA

Thursday January 17th 2013 - 15:00 AM EST
Added by: Jake Hiles

Wednesday we went out looking for a bluefin tuna. Bluefin fishing is typically slow fishing with very few bites but when you get a bite its an incredible fish. This is how wednesday was. We started off inshore close to the inlet and worked our way out some. There were a couple bites to be had in by the beach but we continued venturing out. We finally got a couple miles off the beach around noon and started marking some bait on the bottom. We had a bite but immediately pulled it off. As we were sulking and thinking we missed our only opportunity for the day about 15 minutes later, we had another bite and this one stayed tight. We cleared all the lines and began backing down and set in for the battle. The fish made a long strong first run and we managed to stop it and get on top of the fish. After that a few minutes of yanking and cranking and it was over. We put a nice 74" bluefin tuna on deck and headed back in. Its great to see these things off Virginia Beach. We still have some days available next week. Give me a call at 7577496008 to get your shot at one. Thanks, capt. Jake
