Cold in Virginia but HOT in Guatemala

Fishing has slowed down in the mid atlantic, so it was time to pack our bags up and head south to warmer weather. Usually in February and March we go to Buena Vista Sportfishing Lodge in Iztapa, Guatemala. Its a four hour flight to the lodge from Houston but the warm weather and great fishing make it worth the trip. Last year, I built a boat for Buena Vista, and when I go down I run the 40' Custom Carolina "Legacy". This year we fished from February 16 to February 26 and found great sailfishing. On an average day we saw 10-20 sails and some days we raised as many as 40 of the big Pacific sailfish. All this was is nearly flat calm seas and most days the fish were 15 to 20 miles out of the inlet. I also did some live bait slow trolling inshore and caught some very large rooster fish up to 58". One day we even went out dorado fishing and caught a dozen huge dorados up to about 60 pounds and saw some blue marlins that we did not get a bite out of. 5 star accomodations and the menu at the lodge is excellent. Next year I will be running trips out of Buena Vista in Guatemala again and if this interests you, let me know so we can get out there.
