GREAT TUNA FISHING

On thursday we wanted to do something for a change of pace and instead of going marlin fishing on our offshore trip, we went to the canyon to go tuna fishing. The first spot we stopped wasnt right and we could have probably caught a couple fish there but the next spot we went to was the right one. We ran all the way up to the washington canyon and joined the chunking fleet there. We got there after 10am and many of the ocean city boats had already limited out and gone home for the day- a sign that the tuna fishing is very good. We started chunking and immediately began getting bites. For the next three hours we caught one tuna after another on light tackle. Chunking is really fun in that most of the time you watch the tuna come up and eat your bait right beside the boat. Towards the end of the day we had a 150 to 200 pound mako shark come up and eat one of the chunks. We fought that big shark on the light tackle for a while on the light tackle but eventually the light leader failed. We ended the day with beautiful slick calm seas, a nice ride home, and a big box full of nice yellowfin tunas. Over the next couple of weeks the tuna fishing should just continue to get better, and we have plenty of days available for charter so give us a call and get your trip booked.
