GREAT TUNA FISHING AND BIG BLUE MARLIN

On friday, we had a group in town from New Zealand for an overnight trip. We left around lunch time and headed to the canyon and the plan was to get in the whales and pull the greenstick for tuna. We arrived and within a few minutes we had the stick out and got our first bite. We stayed in the whales and the tuna bites were very steady and nearly every one of our bites was from a big nice fifty to sixty pound yellowfin. Within 3 hours, we were drawing near to our limit on tunas. We continued pulling the greenstick and put a ballyhoo out to try to get a bite from something other than a tuna and we yank through the whales again and the 80 wide goes down with a big blue marlin jumping behind the boat. The fish jumped several times and after 45 minutes we had the fish behind the boat. We released our first blue marlin of the season, a beautiful 115" 400-500 pound blue marlin on top of the limit of yellowfins we had on deck and it wasnt even dark yet. At this point the guys were tired, and keeping the hundreds of pounds of yellowfins we had on deck iced became a concern. Rather than spend the whole night out, we opted to call it a bit early and get home. We took our time coming home and prepared some fresh tuna on the grill and some sushi for dinner aboard the boat on the way home.
