Hatteras mixed bag make up trip

On Friday we ran a make up trip out of Hatteras. This report was submitted to a fishing forum by one of the anglers on the boat, Mike Avery. Thanks guys : Fished with Jake on the Matador out of Hatteras Friday with a great crew and his outstanding mate Tim. Pretty strong NE wind kept our fishing options limited. Stream was ripping at 4 knots. Started out at the 230 rocks with great jigging action with fat alberts and atlantic mackeral. There were reports of blackfin in the area but we could not past the fat alberts they were so thick. Got some great bait for our efforts. One of my fish got sharked and pulled a lot of line from my torsa 30. He let go but came back to finish off the head and got the hook set for his greediness. Tug off war battle finally release about a 200 lb sandbar shark. Enough fun with the jigs, Jake and Tim put out the green stick with 5 pretty danglers and the ballyhoo spread and go north tuna hunting. Find the 2 tones around the 400 and go 1 for 3 on the YFT. YFT try for the stick baits but I think with the rough water and baits flying around so much, they don't find the hook. Jake stayed with the 2 tones for about 2 hours but did not find the tuna again but got 2 gaffers later. Another boat north of us, I think around the 500 got 17 YFT, right place right time. We did not find the BFT, not sure if the northern fleet got into them or now. As always, Jake works hard to put his crew on fish and that is what counts so I'll fish with Jake again. Can't slaughter the fish every trip, especially when the weather does not cooperate. Not too many perfect days exist for HI or OI so just get out there and go fishing.
