06/21/2010 - On Monday we had a group from Iowa aboard for a day offshore. We had a great forecast and they wanted to try to catch a marlin. The marlin fishing has been very good out in the deep and each day there has been good opportunity to catch a billfish. We started right off dropping on a float and catching a couple of bailers in 40 fathoms. Then we trolled out into the deep and about an hour later had a blue marlin on the long rigger. Hooked up but pulled hook during its initial run. Trolled for another hour and watched a boat beside us fight a blue marlin that died during its fight and hit the docks at 465#. A short time later , we had another large blue marlin try our flatline out but again it made a short run and pulled off quickly. Hooks were sharp and the rigs were right. Just pulled em off. We began working a little shallower and found another float and caught some mahi. Then this white marlin came in on the dink bait and after what seemed like 1000 jumps, we released a nice white marlin. By then it was getting late and we started heading in. While running in we saw chopper bluefish on the surface and stopped for a short time to catch a couple on light action spinning gear with topwater poppers. All in all it was a great day on the water.
