Matador Striper Trolling After Christmas

12/27 - Today we had Richard Edmonson and his sons aboard for a all day striper trip. We started off running to the north of Rudee hoping to use eels to fish for trophy stripers, but when we arrived we found cold, muddy water stirred up from the winds and rain a day before. We gave it an hour with the eels, but from listening to intel and the radio, there wasnt much going on. There was a fish or two being caught on the troll at Cape Henry so we headed that way to give it a shot. When we got to the cape, we put out the spread and instantly hooked up... with a gannet. The guys wanted to catch fish not birds and there were hundreds of boats at the cape who werent doing all that much so we decided to take a run and have a look what was going on to the south. We started running and after a while I saw a small fleet of boats and a floc of birds near the state line. We put in at the state line and instantly started catching. The fishing wasnt hot and heavy but the conditions were much nicer and there were some fish to be had. After about two hours, the crew had their limit with a couple nice ones to 35# thrown in and we were lucky enough to head in with a box full of rockfish and a cabin full of happy anglers.
