Matador Charters Fishing Report

Tunas are around, stripers getting closer

Over the last several days we have seen the rockfish move out over the dreaded three mile line and we, like the rest of the fleet, havent been able to keep a rockfish in several days. We had a cold snap that sent the stripers off to the east and over the last couple days they have been making their way back in. Yesterday we looked around for a tuna bite as there have been several bluefin tuna bites a day for the last week or two and though we did not get a bluefin bite, we are getting due to get one and Im hoping we can get a bite any day now. The bluefins have been between 65-80 inches and in the 150-275 pound range. The conditions have been imporving all week and yesterday we caught and released a number of rockfish while targetting tunas a couple miles over the line. Last week they were 20 miles out. yesterday they were about 5 or 6 miles out. The baitfish, birds, and plenty of whales have moved and come in closer over the last couple of days also. So hopefully with this warm snap we have been seeing over the next couple days we will start seeing much better numbers of keeper stripers in legal waters. We still have plenty of days available for charter in january for either rockfish or bluefin tuna and will be happy to get you out there. There are also plenty of options with bottomfish as sea bass, tautog, tilefish, and grouper available for bottomfishing on the wrecks. Give me a call today at 757-749-6008. Thanks, capt. Jake
