Virginia Beach Eeling For Stripers

01/03/09 - Today we had Robert Hailes and friends from Raleigh, NC aboard. Robert does a bit of fresh water fishing for stripers and specifiaclly wanted to go catch a trophy rockfish. We thought the best way to do that would be to go with the eels and he agreed, so off we went. The conditions were gorgeous and perfect. Slick calm, 45 degree semi clear water, and the area just looked good for fishing. The problem was that the spiny dogfish moved in. These things are a plague to the ocean and are somewhat commercially valuable. Marine fisheries should allow the spiny dogfish to be commercially caught more, because they try to eat all my eels. Over the course of the day, we caught over fifty doggies. They were everywhere eating every eel. In between doggies, we did manage to accomplish our goal though and Robert landed a nice 47 pound striper. We also caught a very nice 42 pound cow as well.
