Virginia Beach half day inshore fishing report

This year, we came home from the Outer Banks a bit earlier than normal and as a result, we have been fishing a few inshore trips out of Virginia Beach. Normally inshore fishing this time of year can be feast or famine and earlier this week was no exception. We have really had to scrap out some catches and have been taking whatever we can get. Finally on saturday, the weather had turned around some and the water warmed up outside of rudee inlet and the fish came with it. We started our morning half day inshore trip on saturday at the bridge tunnel. We immediately saw a school of big black drum and caught a nice one. Then a fleet of small boats came and surrounded us and the drum made themselves scarce. We began fishing for croakers and flounder and all we found were a million little tiny croakers. We began trolling towards home and found a few taylor bluefish and right at the end of the trip, we found a huge school of giant red drum, which we caught one sightcasting for a release citation before returning back to the dock. Good to see some nice fish moving in. They will be settled in here for the summer and we look forward to having good inshore fishing for the next couple months.
