Virginia Beach Inshore Full Day

08/13 - Today we had Mary Crarke and friends for a full day inshore. We did the usual and started off trolling for bluefish and spanish. Spanish have been hit or miss lately and though they were a miss that day, the blues were thick. We caught blues three and four at a time all morning. Then we moved to a spot to catch flounder. We did catch a couple flounder there, but the throwback flounders were thick and the skates were even thicker so we moved to another spot. At the new spot we did catch some skates, but the flounder there were much bigger and we had caught a half dozen or so nice 23 and 24 inch flounder in no time. After a short while at that spot, it was time to finish out the trip with a little shark fishing. We set the lines and the chum out and we had sharks follow the chum to the back of the boat, but they just would not bite. we decided to slow troll and within minutes, we had a BIG bite on a live trolled taylor bluefish. We had no idea what in the world we had hooked up but it was very strong and very fast. After a very long battle, we got it to the boat. It was a HUGE redfish. This thing was 56'' long and probably 70 pounds, easily meeting the criteria for a release citation. This was a very good end for the trip.
