Virginia Beach Inshore Wreck Fishing

04/05/09 - Sunday we had Rick Muskovac and friends aboard for a full day inshore. The forecast was for a beautiful day with light winds and clear skies, so we figured we would go east a little ways and look around on some lesser fished wrecks. We had Mike Beane working the cockpit with both sea bass and tautog rigs set up. We started out looking at a couple wrecks for togs. There were quite a few boats out on the wrecks yesterday. Some of the wrecks at the triangles looked to have two or three boats on each wreck. I have a couple hangs where divers tell me there are some huge togs and we tried to give them a shot. We had some bites on hard crab but couldnt seem to get anything but little sea bass and sharks up to the top. We definitely had some togs bites and some short lived hookups on the blackfish, but just for one reason or another it wasnt our day for togs. Then, we went to another wreck a bit further offshore and found a nice class of sea bass. It wasnt hot and heavy but a steady bite with real nice knotheads. We managed a decent catch of bass with some citation class fish mixed in. We didnt have a limit of bass but we did have a nice catch and almost all the bass we brought in were over three pounds. Our biggest bass ended up topping out just over five pounds. I guess we didnt complete the tautog portion of the mission, but the bass made up for it. All in all a good day on the water. Charter dates are starting to book up. We are chartered four days out of the next week with a few others after that waiting on fair weather to get offshore, so I will have some fresh reports as they come in. If you'd like to book, give me a call (757-749-6008) or shoot me an email (matadorsportfishing@yahoo.com). Thanks, Jake
