Weekend MARLINS

Wednesday August 22nd 2012 - 15:00 AM EST
Added by: Jake Hiles

This weekend we had two offshore trips. We were gonna fish the womens tournament on sunday but the forecast fell apart late and we decided to take a group of regulars out charter fishing for the day. On saturday we had a group of navy guys who had never been offshore. The weather was decent and we headed straight to the triple zeros and started doing work on the marlins. We worked all day from the 960 to the 030 in 80 to 100 fathoms. We saw 6 white marlins and caught 5, including one double. We also had two sailfish bites and caught one of those. We didnt have any meat fish catch, but we did catch a big huge reomora on a ballyhoo, some bonitas, and had a wahoo bite or two. Everybody on the boat got to catch a marlin and went home with a citation. On sunday we went offshore and the weather was much different and harder to fish. The wind was east at 15 knots all day and cloudy and rainy. Nonetheless we still caught plenty of fish. We went straight to the same area where we had fished the day before and there were more boats there and it had been invaded by bonitas. We probably had 100 bonita bites. Picking through the bonitas though we did have some marlin bites. We caught a sail off the teaser and two different times we had a double of white marlins come in and we caught one of the two. Early we turned inshore and tried to get some meat fish bites and left the area to the tournament boats. We worked in to the cigar area where we had some bites from yellowfins and wahoos, but they managed to miss our hooks. our tally for sunday was 2 out of 4 white marlin bites and 1 sailfish bite which we caught. The marlin bite is heating up and as the august full moon comes in, the fishing should get better each day. We have plenty of days available for charter both inshore and offshore. Call me today at 7577496008 and get your trip booked. Thanks, capt. Jake
