For any anglers searching for a supreme catch, Virginia Beach, a major fishing city along Virginia's coast, is not only an excellent deep sea fishing location, but also a prime vacation spot for the family. The great Virginia Beach deep sea fishing along the middle Atlantic coast is second to none in the state and is a top stop along the east coast for quality exciting sport fishing of all types.

From sport fishing out of Virginia Beach's Rudee Inlet to fishing the many wrecks, reefs, and other underwater structures  just off of the beach. You can expect Virginia Beach fishing charters to provide a huge variety of game fishing opportunities for all anglers looking to have a successful day fishing.

Places like Sandbridge, Cape Henry, the Chesapeake Bay, Norfolk, Hampton, and other local fishing areas offer anglers a chance to catch a variety of popular sportfishing species.

Your Virginia Beach deep sea fishing Captain may take you to any number of spots, from going south to the North Carolina line area to heading to an offshore wreck or to the Gulfstream where you may find yourself catching some amazing Virginia Beach big game species. These species include catching big striped bass inshore to big marlin or other sportfish in the Virginia Beach offshore fishing grounds.

Year Round Virginia Beach Fishing

With year round deep sea fishing in Virginia Beach, Virginia provides anglers with a wonderful fishing experience no matter when they may come. The peak fishing season, however, is from the month of March to October. During this time, you have an increased likelihood of catching the assorted fish species in the area, as well as increasing the likelihood of finding yourself reeling in a big one!

Virginia Beach grouper fishingAs spring approaches you might find yourself fishing far offshore over a deep water wreck or reef fishing for the bottom fish of the deep, namely large sea bass, grouper, tautog, and tilefish, a favorite of the offshore wreck anglers. The term coined for this type of fishing is Deep Drop Fishing because the waters you are fishing in are so deep. Deep drop fishing is not the only type of fishing in spring. About this time of year the waters are warming up enough where the big black drum and cobia become active. These fish are usually caught much closer inshore, in the Chesapeake Bay or Chesapeake Light Tower.

But if it's tuna you are looking to find on the end of your line, then June through November ranks as usually the best time to catch them. While trolling is generally the most used method for catching these fish in spring and summer, chunking for tuna is another amazing method that can be used in the fall. Fall does not mean you have to chunk for tuna but if the conditions are right then chunking for tuna can result in multiple hook-ups, with the fish taking the bait close to the boat. Chunking is a method of tuna fishing where you throw small pieces of cut up butterfish (chunks) into the water fairly close to the boat while also using a chunk of bait on a hook. Float it back off the stern of the boat and wait for the school of tuna to come by. Get 3 or more anglers hooked up at once and this can be an exciting and fun time assuming you don't get lines crossed, tangled, or in the prop. Can be a nightmare for the first mate.

And if offshore fishing is your cup of tea, Virginia Beach inshore fishing provides an exciting assortment of fish, including Amberjack, King Mackerel, Cobia, Drum, Spadefish, and many other inshore species that call the Virginia Beach fishing grounds home. With such a wide variety of fish to catch, you should have an excellent time fishing in Va Beach regional waters. And if those still do not strike your fancy, there are even swordfishing trips available, allowing you to fish specifically for this classic trophy fish. There is nothing quite like the experience of catching and mounting a swordfish in your house as a testament to the great time you had fishing in Virginia Beach.
