VIRGINIA BEACH OFFSHORE OVERNIGHT CHARTER FISHING BOAT REPORT 11317

Last week we did another overnight offshore make up charter fishing trip out of the Virginia Beach fishing center. The target was supposed to be tuna but after a couple hours of trolling and no bites, we changed gears and set up for swords and sharks. Underdogs crew helped our anglers to catch and release a couple nice hammerhead sharks earning the anglers a Virginia release citation for their efforts and in the night we caught and released a swordfish. As the sun rose, we trolled a little more with no luck so turned quickly to bottom fishing and caught a really nice mess of a nice class of sea bass, and the new pending Virginia state record grey triggerfish at 6 pounds 12 ounces for angler Dave Walden. once we had a full box of fish for our group and everyone had got the chance to catch a couple nice fish, we changed gears and went north to the norfolk canyon to target daytime swordfish.

Heres this weeks fishing report from Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach Virginia. This weekend we had gorgeous weather forecast and the satellite shot looked promising, so we took Underdog out for a 24 hour offshore overnight make up charter fishing trip. We left the Virginia Beach fishing center around lunchtime on Saturday headed for the Norfolk Canyon. We got there and based on slow fishing reports, we made a couple drops for swordfish, but no luck. As it became evening, we switched to trolling for tuna and caught a nice 78# yellowfin tuna on a spreader bar on the south wall of the canyon. It got dark shortly aster so we started drifting. Sharks were thick and we caught several hammerhead sharks up to 10 feet long and killed a nice 7 foot, 98 pound spinner shark for the grill.

UNDERDOG OFFSHORE FISHING CHARTER REPORT 10417

On wednesday, Underdog was booked for an offshore fishing charter. We had a great weather forecast and have been experiencing great fishing and with a nice warm water eddy parked off the Virginia coast, we were anxious to get offshore. We left the Virginia Beach fishing center early and arrived on the scene and landed just in the right spot. We immediately found a large school of mahi mahi, and commenced to catching our limit very quickly. It was still early in the day, so we opted to go deep drop bottom fishing for tilefish and the tilefish were very cooperative, so we caught a quick easy, early limit of tilefish. At this point our fishbox was full but it was still early in the day, so we decided to make a drop for a daytime swordfish. We rigged up and dropped baits and within an hour had a hook up. The sword we caught was a keeper, but our box was already full so we released the swordfish and headed home.

Excellent inshore fishing charters lately for Matador charters out of Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach. This summer, the Spanish mackerel fishing has been exceptional. We have seen very good fishing for Spanish mackerel nearly every day and the size, for Spanish mackerel has been large. A couple days back we caught the largest Spanish mackerel I have ever caught in Virginia. It was 6 pounds 12 ounces. That is the biggest Spanish mackerel caught in Virginia so far this year. There have also been some bluefish around on our half days. We have seen excellent cobia fishing off the Virginia beach oceanfront. Schools of large red drum have been available on every charter fishing trip where we have calm conditions. We have seen some tarpon inshore several times. Flounder and croaker are around. It has been a very good season for inshore fishing so far. The shark fishing hasn’t been stellar but the quality of the sharks we have caught lately has been very good.

We are currently offering inshore and offshore charter trips, with bluefin tuna and deep drop fishing trips available offshore (yellowfin tuna, mako sharks, and mahi mahi are also currently a possibility on an offshore trip).

Most of the trips we will run this spring will be inshore fishing trips. We are currently fishing in and around rudee inlet and the fishing has been excellent for bluefish, puppy drum, and speckled trout. These inshore trips are really great fishing and every one has a great time and we generally catch a lot of fish on the inshore trips this time of year. Give me a call and we will get you set up on a spring time inshore charter fishing trip in Virginia Beach.

Its also the time of year to book your summer season charter trips.

VIRGINIA BEACH CHARTER FISHING OCTOBER UPDATE
Added: Saturday October 24th 2015 - 4:07 AM EST
By: Matador Charters

Click to Read
Its that time of year, the weather is cooling down, kids are back in school, and everyone is settled into their 9 to 5 grind and no one is going fishing, which is a shame because the fall offers some of the best inshore and offshore fishing opportunities out of Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach. Offshore fishing charters are seeing excellent action trolling in the gulf stream with wahoos and dolphin, with scattered yellowfin tuna and an occassional marlin. Soon the fishing for yellowfin tuna will improve as cold fronts spawn warm water gulf stream eddies. In a few short weeks we will also see the arrival of bluefin tuna, swordfish, and mako sharks.

Offshore the deep drop fishing can also be excellent this time of year. There are plenty of blueline and golden tilefish, rosefish, grouper, and black sea bass just came back into season yesterday.

There are also a ton of things to catch for our inshore fishing charters.

Summer is here, tourist season is in full swing, and Matador charters has been doing plenty of charter fishing so far this summer. There has been some really great fishing too. We have had a lot of trips- inshore fishing trips, offshore fishing trips, deep drop fishing trips, tuna charters, but with all of the shark attack this year, we have done a lot of shark fishing charters. People really want to see sharks right now, and the sharks have not been disappointing. We are seeing PLENTY of sharks, and some really nice big sharks.

Inshore, we are seeing the typical summer time fishing. I feel like there is an abundance of sharks this year but that is kind of typical. In Virginia Beach we have a lot of sharks, and people love catching them, so we spend a lot of time targeting sharks, so as a result we catch a lot of sharks. Our inshore catches have also had really great numbers of spanish mackerel and bluefish, as well as a cobia or two.

On Monday, we had an offshore fishing charter out of Virginia Beach and we were going to go deep dropping. The weather was great and we got an early start out of rudee inlet. We arrived at the fishing grounds at the norfolk canyon after seeing some bluefin tuna on the fingers area inshore of the norfolk canyon. We put a bait n the water very quickly to try to catch a tuna but we didnt wast emuch time with it. These were very small tunas and they were moving very quickly. Our target for the day was deep drop species, and as soon as we arrived at the canyon, we started catching target species. We caught a limit of tilefish and about 40 jumbo sea bass pretty quickly, with a few citations in the mix. Then we went and looked around at a couple of deeper spots looking for golden tilefish and wreckfish. Within a few minutes we had 5 golden tilefish, 3 rosefish, and 3 wreckfish.

VIRGINIA BEACH DEEP DROP FISHING CHARTER BOAT REPORT

On sunday, we had a gorgeous forecast in Virginia Beach and took the chance to take a deep drop fishing trip out to the Norfolk Canyon. We had no wind, sunny skies, calm seas, and 63 degree water in the canyon. There was quite a bit of current from the full moon which made it difficult to fish in the really deep stuff but we still scratched out a nice catch out there. We caught all sorts of fish deep dropping and came home with a nice catch of red bellied rose fish, hake, 2 golden tilefish up to 35 pounds, a limit of blueline tilefish to 14 pounds, a 39 inch bluefish, several 100# class seven gill sharks, and a 7 foot blue shark. We had a really nice grouper hooked up but it managed to get back down into the rocks and pulled off. We caught fish all day long and everyone got to catch a nice fish. Great day fishing. We have plenty of dates available for a deep drop charter out of rudee inlet so give me a call at 7577496008 and we will get your trip booked.

TUNAS AND TILES OFFSHORE REPORT

On Saturday, we had a trip for tunas and we started out in the Norfolk canyon. The weather was nice and waters were calm with 73 degree blue water. Fairly perfect tuna fishing conditions. We started off in the Norfolk and had one good whack from the tunas and never had another bite from them so we went off to greener pastures and went bottom fishing for tilefish. The bottom fishing was good and very easy and within a short time we had caught a nice mess of tiles and every person in out charter had a citation for tilefish from ten to twelve pounds. We trolled in a little ways and caught a dolphin or two and a false albacore or two to end out the day.

INSHORE WITH SPANISH AND HAMMERHEAD
Added: Thursday December 11th 2008 - 15:00 AM EST
By: Jake Hiles

08/31/08 - Today we had the Hageny's aboard from Washington D.C. for a half day. The marathon this morning had the roads closed and unfortunately the Hageny's had to walk almost two miles to get to the boat. The forecast was for the weather turning nasty later in the day so we left in the morning. At the start of the trip, the wind was light NE and progressively getting stronger throughout the morning. I would imaginie it got rough in the afternoon. The fishing was not as good as yesterday, but still good. the northeast wind had the water muddied as opposed to the gin clear water yesterday and the fish were on the move today. We started off by the sandbridge pier and it took about two and a half hours to get our limit of spanish. We had some nice spanish and there were some good two pound bluefish mixed in. All in all we probably caught an equal amount of bluefish as spanish mackeral. After catching our limit, we moved out just south of the dump site to catch a shark real quick.
