A large catch of rudee inlet bluefish caught with matador charters
Charter fishing season has arrived and Matador charters is doing some charter fishing trips out of Rudee inlet in Virginia Beach. As Matador charters continues to book both inshore fishing charters and offshore fishing charters through the summer, we are also starting our fishing season in Virginia Beach. So far things have been very hit and miss and the fishing changes from day to day. Several of our trips so far have sen decent fishing in the inlet, but some days are just better than others. Rudee inlet has seen the bluefish bite change from day to day. Some days we catch them good and the next day they dont seem to be around. There have also been scattered speckled trout, puppy drum, and flounder at rudee inlet. The flounder fishing appears to be getting better and better by the day and soon flounder should be a reliable target species on all of our inshore trips.

When we have been able to get out of the inlet, matador charters has been doing some wreck fishing. Overall the wreck fishing has been pretty good. The only problem with wreck fishing now is that black sea bass are out of season and cannot be kept. Sea bass have been large and plentiful on most trips and have made it tough to catch our target species of tautog. Tautog are in season, but the fishing for them has been hit or miss. Sea bass season starts may 15 and when the season comes i, there should be plenty of bass available.

Drum are also beginning to show on the eastern shore and Matador charters is booking red drum and black drum fishing charters through may. These charters are best in the evenings and drum fishing is a quality over quantity type of fishing trip. On a drum trip, you may only catch a handful of fish, but the drum you catch will likely be a trophy sized fish.

Offshore, we have a number of different species available for an offshore fishing charter. Most people are booking deep drop fishing charters targeting tilefish and grouper. Offshore trolling when the gulf stream comes into range can see bluefin tuna and yellowfin tuna, and sharks and mahi mahi should be around soon.

We are booking trips all summer and many of the better charter fishing dates are booking quickly so if you are interested in booking a charter fishing trip with matador charters this summer, now is the time to book. Call us today and get your virginia beach charter fishing trip reserved at 757-749-6008. Thanks, capt. Jake
