Today I had a group from Delaware who didn't want to troll and wanted to bottom fish. So we went out to the wrecks and caught a half dozen nice flounder up to 25" and some nice sea bass. We get back to the dock and I told the guys "alright let's get these fish over to the fish cleaners". They said "cap we have a long drive and don't feel like messing with them. You go ahead and take them". Then they handed me the charter fees, gave me a nice tip, and went on their way.
Fresh flounder and seabass for dinner tonight? Dont mind if I do!
Flounder season on the wrecks is just getting started out of Virginia Beach for us and usually in September we see great fishing on the wrecks for flounder and excellent sight fishing at the mouth of the bay for cobia. I still have a few days available in September for charter so give me a call at 7577496008

Since last weekend's heavy rains, the fishing has been tough inshore for mackerel. We've seen some decent cobia fishing and some ribbonfish to keep meat in the box, but today finally some mackerels bit this morning. We caught 3 cobias- 42", 38", 26", a nice king mackerel, and some nice spanish mackerel. Just in time for the weekend!

Saturday morning Jeff Landis and I set out of Rudee Inlet on a mission to go catch bluefin tuna. There have been some really big fish around and I saw an opportunity to re-set the Virginia State record for bluefin tuna. The current Virginia record is 606 pounds caught April 6, 2015, aboard CJ Dawson's "Ate Up" by my late friend Chase Robinson. I was a part of the crew that caught that fish and I always thought since Chase's passing that it would be fitting if one of Chase's friends broke his record. Earlier in the week, I saw a weather window that looked good for fishing and made some calls attempting to recruit anglers to come crank fish for me on an over night trip on my 35' Henriques Maine Coaster "Toro". I even invited CJ and Phil Casone, but neither could make the trip. No one could. I cant really blame people. Cranking giant bluefin tunas isn't much fun. It's hard work, and when you tell someone they can go crank on a potential record fish, I think their reaction is "I'm not your fool today!"
